This is where Door Signs started, a commission from my husband.
Portberry Crafts Door Signs are my signature piece. They started after a discussion at home about the cost of Door Numbers, when I pointed out that as Powertex is weather-proof I could make one.
This one has all the elements for mixed media projects, layers of texture paste, lace, MDF and metal embellishments, 3D balls and lots of colour. I loved the idea of using old keys on a door plate.
The key to an outdoor number plate is taking time to make sure both sides and all the edges are covered with Powertex. When I am not doing these in classes, I like to take my time and paint the elements slowly over a couple of days.
Leonie Pujol explains the secret to a good mixed media project is layers, so I started with EasyStructure and then added lace icons before adding MDF and metal embellishments and numbers.
I started with dry brushing the whole of the shape (front and back) with a mixture of turquoise and blue with a hint of rich gold. I then added more pigment with Easy Varnish to make a paint to highlight the numbers.
It’s a quick and easy way make an outdoor art project. Tickets are still available.Tickets are still available.
