As part of my 2025 exploration of the Japanese concept of “Wabi Sabi” I’m sharing the inspiration for my January 2025 Wabi Sabi project

One place in the West Country that encapsulates the faded beauty and natural elements Wabi Sabi is Weston-super-Mare.

This month I’m drawing on the area around the Birnbeck Pier. An area of street art, rocks, ocean and derelict buildings.

In September 2010, the Royal Pier Hotel on the cliff by Birnbeck Pier burnt down. Today, it’s a pile of rubble, street art, and regrowth.

There is so much texture that I want build into a Powertex Canvas.
