Inspiration – May Flowers Week 4

Anything goes with flowers, you can make and shape them out of many materials.

In the last of our May mini series into flowers with Powertex we look at some of the other ways you can make and shape flowers.

Firstly you can cut and shape flowers by hand, the sunflowers in the above photo are cut from T-Shirt fabric with a centre coiled from T-Shirt yarn.

You can also you bigz dies to cut from fabric material but also thin wood, leather, mountboard or card.

One of the secrets of realistic is getting the centre right. Powertex 3D balls make great centres as they look like pollen.

If you haven’t got time to make flowers from scratch, you can use ready made flowers from MDF, metal or lace. With lace flowers you shape them (I use a chop stick in the middle to curl the petals) and add centres from Crystal’s or Pearl’s.

Finally be creative with how you use flowers, they can become eyes, points on a clock or just to create depth.

I hope you have enjoyed this mini series. Don’t forget to share what you create on our Portberry Crafts Facebook page.
