Blue Friday – A Celebration of the Blues of Powertex UK – Day 5

We finish our week of celebrating the different types of Blue which are available from Powertex UK with the one I use the most – Blue Bister.

Bister is Walnut Ink, which is a highly stable, colour-fast ink made from Walnut Shells. Its been used for writing and in art for millennium. It’s even used by the Houses of Parliament to create the official records of Acts of Parliament (known as Black Letter Law).

I use Bister to prepare canvases, this is a mixture of Blue and Brown Bister which has sprinkled with salt. This technique takes about 3 minutes and is great for getting over the Artist Block which can come when faced with a white canvas.

Bister is perfect for spraying or painting on clays made from the Powertex Powders including Stone Art,  3D Flex and PowerSmooth. It picks up the depth and details of the Powders, which can then be highlighted with pigments

Bister is, for me, one of the core products of Powertex and one of the most versatile colouring products.

I hope you’ve found this week informative and has helped banish the January Blues.

What’s your favourite Blue?
