Powertex Advent Calendar 2024 – Day 7

Welcome to our Advent Calendar Countdown for 2024, What has Houston got in store today?

Box 7 is huge, in fact it was so big, we had problems getting Houston and the bx in the same shot.

We’ve got a bumper pack of goodies today. Firstly, there is an A3 sized sheet of rice paper covered in Victoriana Christmas Images. Secondly, there is a clay bauble. And lastly, a battery-powered Tealight.

I like Rice Paper, you can add details and images to your artwork without jagged rough edges.

I’ve not shared this canvas before. I made using a Powertex Stars class earlier this year. Powertex Stars is the monthly club that is run by Michele, Powertex UK’s Creative Director. It comes in two options: Silver, which just gives you to the class or Gold, where you get access to the class and the kit.

So, back to Rice Paper, you add it to both flat or 3D projects and you prepare it in the same away.

Turn the paper upside down so the shiny picture side is facing down. With a thin paint brush, dipped in water, trace a line around the image, leaving a few millimeters around the edge.

Gently tear the paper where it is wet and you will end up with a feathery edge.

Paint a line layer of Powertex (transparent or a light colour works best) and gently pat the image onto it  with the image/shiny side upwards. From the middle of the image, paint another thin layer over the top, and you will see the edges almost melt into the project.

What will you create?
